REACHING POTENTIALS – IN SUPPORT OF SPECIAL NEEDS EDUCATION IN ECUADOR 

Reaching Potentials is a pilot project aimed at inclusive education for children with various types of disabilities (autism,  intellectual disabilities, visual and auditory deficiencies and motor-skill problems), giving priority to autism because of its incidence and lack of treatment in Ecuador.  

Through a specialized inclusion program, the project promotes awareness, training, syllabus development and educational/therapeutic support to children with disabilities and their families.  

The project seeks to embrace children with SNE (Special Needs Education) in an inclusive schooling environment, in order to develop the maximum potential of the children with disabilities, enabling the children to become productive and cooperative members of society in all aspects of daily life.  Activities will include: 

-        Allocating a physical space that is adapted to the needs and capacities of children with SNE; 

-        Performing case-by-case evaluation and analysis of the children that will take part in the program; 

-       Providing support and advice to the school’s teachers; 

-      Implementing programs of individualized support and syllabus-adaptation for every child;  

-      Including families in the education process so that they become active participants of their children’s development; 

-     Sharing experiences and information with the educational community on the needs, potential and reality of disabled children in order to raise awareness and develop more openness toward them. 

Through its parent company (SKS Farms), Pacari donated a portion of the profits from the sale of the holiday 2009 gift boxes to support the objectives of this important program for families of children with autism and other special needs, and continues to support this program throughout the year.
